About Me – Sharon Shaver, IMFT

Welcome — You’re in the Right Place

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re navigating relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, or a major life transition. I’m Sharon Shaver, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Ohio. I provide therapy for both individuals and couples who want to better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and create meaningful change.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Centerville, Ohio
Helping adults and couples build healthier relationships, improve communication, and navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and connection.

Who I Help

I work with adults and couples who are experiencing:

  • Feeling disconnected from themselves or their relationships

  • Difficulty communicating needs, emotions, or boundaries

  • Repeating patterns that lead to conflict or frustration

  • Anxiety, depression, or feeling overwhelmed

  • Major life transitions or seasons of uncertainty

  • A desire to build healthier relationships and a more fulfilling life

You don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. Therapy offers a supportive, non-judgmental space to understand what’s happening beneath the surface, develop new skills, and move toward healing and lasting change.

Whether you’re seeking individual therapy or couples therapy, I’m honored to walk alongside you as you create a stronger connection with yourself and the people who matter most.

If it’s time for change, if you’re ready to do the work, if you want to be closer than ever to your partner, I can help.

My Approach to Therapy

I believe therapy is a collaborative process built on trust, compassion, and understanding. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe exploring your experiences, emotions, and relationship patterns without judgment.

I use evidence-based approaches, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to help individuals and couples better understand themselves, strengthen relationships, and develop tools for meaningful change.

What Working With Me Feels Like

Therapy with me is a collaborative process focused on creating emotional safety, deeper understanding, and meaningful change. We’ll explore the patterns that impact your life and relationships while building practical tools to help you move forward.

You’ll learn skills to:

  • Understand how past experiences may influence current emotions, behaviors, and relationship patterns

  • Communicate your needs and boundaries more clearly

  • Navigate difficult conversations with greater confidence and connection

  • Develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges

I value authenticity, curiosity, and respectful honesty. My goal is to create a space where you feel supported while also encouraging growth. When therapy goals have been met, I’ll celebrate that progress with you—therapy is a meaningful resource, not something you have to do forever.

A Bit About Me

I came to this work because I love helping people build connection and clarity about themselves and their relationships. I’ve completed specialized training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and I continue to grow my skills so I can offer the best possible support.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy moments of calm and connection — whether that’s being outdoors, spending time with friends, checking on my houseplants, or taking a quiet evening to reflect and recharge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect in my first therapy session?

Your first session is focused on understanding what’s bringing you in and what you’re hoping will change. We’ll talk about your relationship history, current challenges, and what feels most important right now. You don’t need to prepare anything in advance—this is a space to slow down, feel heard, and begin creating clarity together.

How do I know if couples therapy is right for us?

Couples therapy can be helpful if you feel emotionally disconnected, stuck in repeating conflicts, or unsure how to communicate without things escalating or shutting down. You don’t have to be at a breaking point to benefit. Many couples seek therapy to better understand each other and rebuild emotional closeness before problems deepen.

What is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)?

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based approach to therapy that focuses on emotional connection and attachment. EFT helps couples and individuals identify unhelpful interaction patterns, understand the emotions underneath conflict, and create safer, more supportive ways of relating. It is one of the most researched and effective models for strengthening relationships.
